Thompson is an abstract artist from Sydney Australia who uses mixed mediums and is a self-taught artist. Predominately using primarily alcohol Inks, she uses colour as a way of telling a visual story and having spent her childhood in the natural beauty of Broome, Western Australia, her art is formed from memories and dreams of the beach, fishing and camping that were an everyday occurrence for her. In the remoteness of this region the stars shine brightly and it’s where her passion for space was formed which is evident in some of her work.
Her work is often inspired by flora, and the visions of paint blooms are created as the seasons rise and fall. The ocean is another influence that holds a significant importance, and her memories of the water where the tide was reliable and beautiful are reflected in many of her works.
‘I am wanting to portray that there is beauty in flora by the ocean, as not a lot of flowers grow by the ocean except bushes and hardy plants. I often paint in the perspective of looking downwards at my subject matter as that’s how I see them in my memories.’- Thompson
