Cartwright is a British artist currently living and working in London. His work amalgamates multiple mediums, compositions and perspectives onto canvas to create visually bold and graphical pieces. With a background in advertising and art direction, his work sits within the ever-changing area in-between art and advertising. Cartwright’s most recent body of work incorporates themes of west coast Americana. Palm trees, sun-kissed beaches, gas station and fast food signage are combined with a warm colour palette to create mellow ensembles on canvas. Using his imagination the white car is a type of made up SUV in Cartwright’s imagination. Green Palm trees and made up sculpture park, walls in orange. Sky blue.
Some of the new pieces made their debut at The Other Art Fair, Los Angeles, the emerging artist’s first international art fair. The work was very well received with strong sales. He also met dozens of local artists, curators and collectors to grow his connection base in California, a place which has intrigued and inspired the artist from a young age. It was also on this trip that Cartwright had the incredible opportunity of meeting his hero, David Hockney. Sharing an unforgettable afternoon/evening at his studio soaking up his wisdom, stories and advice on life and being an artist.
